3 February, 2016 – Serko Ltd. (SKO.NZ) Australian business travellers who use Serko Online are set to save with the launch of a new Serko Online feature that enables them to compare the price on hotel rooms from all major hotel providers in the region and book the ‘Best Rate of the Day’.
Darrin Grafton, Serko CEO said “The idea of an online comparative search engine for hotels, like Trivago for example, is very familiar to people booking their leisure travel but is relatively new to the business world. Until now, businesses using an Online Booking Tool (OBT) have been limited to hotels via the Global Distribution System (GDS) only. With this new feature, Serko Online users can compare prices from all major suppliers against GDS rates and can book with Expedia for example, if Expedia is offering the Best Rate of the Day, without ever leaving Serko Online.”
The new service is made possible with Serko’s recent strategic partnerships with the world’s two largest hotel room aggregators, Expedia (including Wotif, owned by Expedia) and Booking.com, which together with content from the GDS’s (Amadeus, Travelport and Sabre), has given Serko the largest hotel database in Australasia with more than 12,000 properties (1 million globally) - all instantly comparable and bookable.
By tapping into the buying power of Expedia, Wotif, and Booking.com, Serko Online users now have access to alternative rates that can be as much as 15-20 per cent cheaper than those found solely via traditional GDS.
Grafton adds “a competitive hotel marketplace will offer more value for businesses. Based on personal preferences and corporate travel policy, the Best Rate of the Day feature will ensure you’re getting the best rate with every search. More than that, if your preferred corporate rate (via GDS) is already sold out, or you need to book a specific hotel or location not supported by the GDS, Best Rate of The Day can avoid the need for travel bookers to go “offline” to book hotels. The whole trip can be booked in Serko Online giving businesses visibility of where their staff are staying.”
As a result, Darrin believes business travel can now be in the hands of employees themselves. “Our aim is to bring the everyday competitive rates of the internet to the corporate travel sector, and this means maximising all the data available to us.”
Serko Online users wanting Best Rate of the Day can request it via their Travel Management Company.
